Back in 2015, I had been planning my second cruise to the Bahamas for months, and I was so excited to finally set sail. But as the day of departure got closer, I started to freak out because I had to meet a deadline at work and had a lot of stuff to do before I could leave. I thought I could cut it close by booking a flight that arrived in Baltimore, the port city, on the same day as the cruise departure. I know, I know - not the best idea, but I was feeling adventurous.
I got to the airport super early in the morning, all hyped up and ready to go. But then I heard this couple in front of me talking about arriving a day in advance to avoid any potential travel delays. I didn't think much of it and was like, "Psh, that won't happen to me. I got this."
Well, guess what? My flight got delayed because of low visibility at the airport in Baltimore, and I ended up arriving hours later than planned. I was in a hurry to get to the port, hoping I could make it in time for the cruise, but by the time I got there, the ship had already set sail. I was devastated. All the excitement and anticipation I had built up for months had gone down the drain.
Well, I have to admit that missing the boat was a huge bummer at the time, but things eventually turned around for me. I decided to stick around the port city and find some way to salvage my vacation.
After a bit of searching, I found a nice hotel in Baltimore where I decided to spend the night. As I was checking in, I noticed a woman who looked equally frustrated and disappointed. Turns out, she had also missed the same cruise ship I was supposed to be on. We struck up a conversation and commiserated over our bad luck.
We ended up spending the rest of the day together, exploring Baltimore and enjoying each other's company. It turned out to be one of the most memorable and fun days of my life. And the best part? We hit it off so well that we started dating long-distance after the trip and eventually got married.
So, in a way, missing that cruise was a blessing in disguise. If I had made it onto the ship, I never would have met the amazing woman who is now my wife. It just goes to show that sometimes, things don't go as planned, but good things can still come out of unexpected situations.
Cute story! I actually met my husband on a Carnival cruise to the Bahamas… at the casino playing slot machines lol
